I will verify all that Darius has said about the installation of ESXi. It might work on 5.1 (although without official support). Like I said, though, I have not done this in ages, so it's entirely possible I may have forgotten something important.Īnother thing to note: OS X 10.9 is not officially supported on ESXi 5.0 or 5.1. #MAC OS 10.9 5 INSTALL#Once you have ESXi up and running, you should be able to install OS X guests on that host. From that point on, I think it should be the same as a regular ESXi boot and/or installation. You should then see an icon for the CD or USB key with ESXi on it. The main difference is that you need to hold down the Option key immediately after powering on the Mac, and hold it down until you see a list of bootable devices. You can also refer to this excellent video which shows the steps live. It's been a looooooooong time since I actually did this, so the following might not be entirely trustworthy: You should be able to install ESXi onto your Mac Pro in much the same way as on any other computer. Once you see the desktop, your Mac is now fully cleaned and reset and ready to run. Continue with the setup of your mac until you see the desktop. So basically, if you see this screen, it means you now have a brand new OS installed afresh. You will now see the screen where you need to select the country and then keyboard layout and stuff. Success : Once the system restarts, we have a fresh OS installed which can now be setup again as per our wish.So no problem even if you don't hit the restart button :-) The Mac will anyhow automatically restart after a few seconds. After the installation has succeeded, click on Restart.Generally around 15 minutes to half an hour. Once the download is complete, the Mac will automatically reboot and directly move to the installation screen where it shows the installation progress. With my 4MBps internet, it took around 4 hours to download. #MAC OS 10.9 5 MAC OS#Now the Mac OS will start downloading and this process will take quite some time depending on your internet speed. Here, select Macintosh HD and click on Install and then click on Continue. Then in the next window, you will have to select the drive in which you want to install the OS. Now as your mac is connected to WiFi, it will download the OS from the Apple for re-installation. Click Continue again in the next two windows. #MAC OS 10.9 5 MAC OS X#Here, select Reinstall Mac OS X and click on Continue. It will now show the Mac OS X Utilities window again. Once it is finished, you can see that the hard drive is completely erased by looking at the free space given at the bottom of disk utility window. I have attached a sample screen clip below to depict the process.Ĭlick on "Erase" again to confirm.
